In a close race between Rachel and Nathan the winner is ... Nathan! Some may your iron will stuborness and look upon it unfavorably (some may use more colorful language). But we call it consistency, way to stick to your guns till the very (hot) end! Most Trusting In another close race, this time between Orleana and Ruthmay the winner is ... Ruth may! Perhaps her trust was more along the lines of unknowing obediance, but her lack of free will and apparant parroting served to make her this years most trusting recipiant! Most likely to Overcome This award was a blowout. Adah takes the cake with her ability to walk away (no pun). On the other hand no one walks away from the Congo. Most Masculine This award given to the character who most exemplified and emulated typical masculine virtues goes to Leah. Another obvious choice as she is more of a bread winner than her father. Most Feminine This award is given to the character who most
closely acts as a proper lady. As there are none
in this book we go with the bimboish character
we all love to hate. Rachel Price! Life Changer Award Anatole is given this award. His teaching
has changed many individuals within and
outside of the Price family. This is his third
nomination and first win. Ironic Man Award Though there were many good nominations for this award, the winner this year is... Lumumba! Nothing stings like the injustice of being granted partial justice. You were set free only to be caged. The Law award This years law award goes to Tata Ndu. Why? Simply because he repeatedly layed down the law. Nothing but power could have gotten a vote going during church, props! Awards Top-ten 10. Setting affects the plot because only in Africa would someone have to pay for their own goods (Axelroot).

9. Choosing to enter Africa in a time period of Social unrest is excellent!

8. When baptism isn't understood it can be interpreted as a crocodile feeding.

7. The rain forests weather floods the roads which serves to disconnect communities.

6. The location of Africa seems to be a paradise but holds many dangers.

5. Nathans deeds are better
than his intents (class structure)
when he preaches to the outcasts.

4. The cultural environment is so
new that those who come to teach end
up being taught.

3. The weather affects their actions
when there is too much rain sometimes
which causes death, and too little rain
others which ... causes death.

2.Their social situation (their family unit
in this case) would have been reason enough
for them to leave the congo before someone got
seriously hurt, but Orleana doesnt leave until Ruthmay is dead.
