Transcript of 4D-PRINTING
3. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
4. FUTURE IMPLICATIONS
MEANING OF 4D PRINTING
Simplification In Assemblies
Since all the information for assemblies are recorded in the 4D-printed materials, manuals are of no need and only outer stimulations such as heat or vibrations are needed.
4D-PRINTING - SELF ASSEMBLY
END OF PRESENTATION
Literal Meaning of “4D printing”
Connecting it with Nano system and human system
Application at various fields

NANO AND HUMAN SYSTEMS
Some Fields Of Application
An example is the building of Nano-robots that can self-model and be used to transport anti-tumor drugs to malignant cells of patients with cancer.
CHANGE IN ROLE OF LABOR:
Human labor would be reduced and it would ensure some degree of comfort at work places.
TIME AND SPEED AND MONEY:
Time would be effectively used and manufacturing processes would be faster as compared to the manufacturing systems we have now. Transportation cost would be reduced since there would be no need to transport large inventories across the globe and outside it.
There would be the effective utilization of readily available and randomly occurring forms of energy and reduction in the depletion of raw materials from which some forms of energy are produced.
SAFETY AND SECURITY:
We can be assured to have the best safety benefits out of manufactured products since they can alter their forms to suit any environmental situation at any time.
MILITARY AND SPACE:
Supplies would be easily transported to places that are difficult to access and this would aid in smooth and fast exploration process.
A certain crop of workers would be stripped of their jobs since there would be no need of their services in the manufacturing process which is likely to result in financial problems in their homes.
APPLICABLE TO SPECIALIZED AREAS:
It maybe applicable to a few specialized areas such as outer space stations and war zones. Applying it in our already society would require a massive destruction of already manufactured products. For example, buildings.
Difficulty in the construction and manufacturing world
materials that build themselves“self assembly”
Use of randomly occurring energy in building
non- random shapes
Examples of 4D printings
Skylar Tibbits building a prototype.
It is like slave labor work
Replacement of underground pipes;
involves digging out and taking out all
the pipes which requires high labor.
Difficulty In Construction And Manufacturing World
Materials that build themselves
Use Of Randomly Occurring Energy In BuildingNon-random Shapes
An initial shake gets the structures of samples disordered. The structures orderly builds up by themselves after subsequent shakes.
For researchers, it involves the use of randomly energy in building non-random shapes.
concept : takes multi-material 3D printings and deposits multiple materials
Transformation: parts can transform from their original shapes into other shapes on their own
Examples Of 4D Printing
Usage in the outer space,
mostly due to environmental
conditions present over there
Manufacturing of underground
Self-Assembly based on 4D printing
No more complicated
Easiness in repairing
Saving both human
Examples : Tents, toys, and desks.
Human resources : Few number of workers, such as designers, programmers, and factory managers would be needed. Also, dangerous, dirty, or difficult assemblies can be replaced.
Natural resources : Decrease in use of artificially generated energies and numerous parts like screws save natural resources.
Repairing and Remodeling
The 4D-printed products are designed so that they can repair themselves or change their shapes according to the environmental factors such as changes in temperature and earthquakes.
Much more efficient and eco-friendly
Limitations and Problems
Application of self-assembly to more complicated products and structures such as buildings and automobiles.
Cost involved in manufacturing and purchasing of finished goods by the general public.
The issue of Unemployment as a result of the use of self-assembly products
GROUP 2 - ENG10911
This briefly describes how molecular self-assembly works, to the general public.
4D + Printing
Literal Meaning of “4D printing”
Printing means memorizing and copying.
"Self- assembly material"
We can handle the Nano scale system.
4D means "change"
The arrows indicate the change of the shape
