Phases Of The Moon
Solar Eclipse
Seasons
The seasons are caused by the tilt of the earths rotational axis away or towards the sun as it travels through its year long path around the sun.

The earth has a tilt of 23.5 degrees related to the "ecliptic plane." The tilt toward the Sun is maximized during the northern hemisphere summer in late June.

Lunar Eclipse
There are eight different phases of the moon: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, and waning crescent.
A new moon occurs when the moon is between the earth and the sun. The half of the moon that is bright is not pointed at the earth and the dark side of the moon is only visible.
New Moon
Waxing
Waxing in this case is to become larger in size or become stronger.
First Quarter
First quarter shows the right half of the moon. The quarters are placed so, that with the earth and sun, the moon is at a 90 degree angle.
Gibbous
A gibbous moon is where more than half of the moon is shown, but the whole moon is not visible yet.
Full Moon
We need special glasses to watch a
solar eclipse because the light from the eclipse
could blind you.
A full moon occurs when the moon, earth, and sun line up in that order. The bright side of the moon is completely visible to us.
To watch a solar eclipse you need pinhole projectors.
To make pinhole projectors you'll need:

eclipse glasses

Welder's goggles

Aluminized Mylar Sheeting
A solar eclipse is an eclipse in which the sun
is obscured be the moon.

From the earth, a solar eclipse is when the mostly or partially blacks out the sun.
Waning
Waning means to decrease in size or power. In other words, waning means to become smaller.
Third Quarter
Third quarter has the left side of the moon visible to us only.
Crescent
A crescent means less than half of the moon is shining.
The Sun, Earth, and moon is aligned where the moon is either partial or completely in Earth's penumbra or umbra shadow.
Penumbra
Umbra
A lunar eclipse happens only when there is a full moon. There are three types of lunar eclipses.
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
Partial Lunar Eclipse
Total Lunar Eclipse
A penumbral lunar eclipse happens when the moon completely is in the earth's penumbral shadow and is not at a 5 degree angle. A partial lunar eclipse happens when only part of the moon is in the earth's umbral shadow. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the whole moon is in the earth's umbral shadow.
The moon is tilted at a five degree angle, so
a lunar eclipse does not occur every month, it only occurs on average one and a half times per year. The moon is red during a lunar eclipse because the blue light from the sun is absorbed by the earth's atmosphere and only some of red and orange light reaches the moon.
The next lunar eclipse will occur Oct. 08, 2014 and will be visible to us here in North America.watching a lunar eclipse does not require any special glasses such as a solar eclipses requires.
Fall
In the fall, temperatures may start to cool
and plants start to get dormant.Also, animals
prepare for colder weather, either storing food or traveling to warmer climates.


Winter
winter is the coldest season and some areas may experience snow and ice, while others get cold rain. Some animals adapt or change to the new environment.
Spring
In the spring, seed take root and vegetation
begins to grow. The weather is warmer, and often wetter. Animals wake up or return from warmer climates, often with newborns. Melting snow from the previous seasons, along with increase rainfall, can cause flooding along waterways.
Summer
In the summer, temperatures increase to hottest of the year. if they spike too high, heat waves or droughts may cause trouble for people, animals,and plants. Rainfall may increase in some areas, while some don't get any water at all, and forest fires may increase.
Penumbra
the moons faint outer shadow
partial solar eclipses are visible from with in the penumbral shadow

Umbra
the moons darker inner shadow

Solar Corona
The bright outer ring during a solar eclipse
temperatures can get very hot
is only visible for a few minutes
