There are many animals that used to live
in this biome but have been eliminated
and hunted to the edge of extinction.

They include
mountain lions,
elk and

Lots of plants and animals dying from humans

Poachers killing animals in the forests

Habitat loss as countless animals are losing their lives to humans building homes in the animals habitats.

Deforestation as thousands of trees are cut down down every hour throughout the world
Problems for the plants and animals
Extinction in the forest
The deciduous forest is full of fertile

They include
The beech tree,
Chestnut hickory,
Evergreen and

Food Chain
Trees shed their leaves on the ground
Leaves decay
Nutrients in the leaves are absorbed by the soil
Soil becomes fertile
Why is the deciduous forest so fertile?
Animal adaptations
Migration: 60 to 70 % of birds migrate to the tropics when the weather becomes cold
Hibernation: many mammals hibernate in the winter when the food is limited
Food storage: squirrels, chipmunks and jays store nuts and seeds in their homes to feed them throughout the winter

Tree adaptations
Have thick bark to protect against the cold winter
Make thin light leaves that capture a lot of sunlight to feed themselves
Shed their leaves as to minimize the amount of water that they lose
Mammals, birds, insects and reptiles
are all types of animals found in this biome

They include:
American Bald Eagle
American Black Bear
Duckbill Platypus
Eastern Chipmunk
European Red Squirrel
Least Weasel
