Characteristics Of Metals,Non-Metals& Metalloids...
Metals - generally shiny, malleable, and hard. Metals are also good conductors of electricity.
Non-metals -do not conduct heat or electricity very well. Non-metals are typically brittle and are not easily molded into shapes.
Metalloids share characteristics of both metals and non-metals and are also called semimetals. Metalloids are typically semi-conductors, which means that they both insulate and conduct electricity.

It is fairly obvious that the atoms get bigger as you go down groups. The reason is equally obvious - you are adding extra layers of electrons.

Chemistry plays a big role in our lives. Its in the air we breathe , even the food we eat. Chemistry is really around us 24/7 if we think about. Our body has to do with chemistry,also our brains , and emotions. A lot of things would be impossible without chemistry.

The three main parts of a atom is protons,neutrons,and electrons.
Protons - have a positive charge, located in the nucleus,
Protons and neutrons have nearly the same mass while electrons are much less massive.
Neutrons- Have a negative charge, located in the nucleus.
Electrons- has no charge.
The atomic number of an element is equal to the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom of that element, but a atomic mass is the sum of the numbers of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
Isotope- each of two or more forms of the same element that contain equal numbers of protons but different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei. Isotopes are used in medicine to diagnose and treat diseases.
example of an element and its isotope , the atomic mass of a normal carbon atom is 12 as it has 6 protons and 6 neutrons in its nucleus. The isotope C-13 also has the same number of protons, i.e. 6, but the number of neutrons is not 6 but 7. This makes the atomic mass 6+7 = 13.
Example of how to find the number of subatomic particles in an isotope by looking at the atomic mass : the atomic mass of chlorine (Cl) is 35.45 because chlorine is composed of several isotopes, some (the majority) with an atomic mass of 35 (17 protons and 18 neutrons) and some with an atomic mass of 37 (17 protons and 20 neutrons).
