- the opposites: Zorba defied society’s expectations of how “strong” a male should be by being expressive and emotional and the soldier friend was stoic in nature and acted very devoid in his “emotions” (culture)
- War: Zorba sympathized for humanity and the soldier friend thought it was his duty to fight in the war (social)
