1. What tasks do you need to complete?
Creating a work break down structure
Hierarchical plan that summarises and displays sub projects and tasks within a project
Difference between effort and duration

Effort - How long will it take to complete the tasks (you may be waiting for others)
3 people @ 2 hours = 6 hours effort

Duration - How long will it actually take you to complete the work
3 people @ 2 hours = 2 hours duration

A painter paints a house every day for 2 hours, but has to let it dry each day. It takes him three days to finish the house = 6 hours effort / 3 days duration

3. What are the milestones?
Helps you to:- Identify potential sub projects
- Visualise the sequence in which work must be performed
- Break down elements of work to be completed
- Delegate tasks

What does the project team know and what is unknown?

Considering constraints will help you understand what definitely will limit you

As you define the project, you will encounter unknowns - questions that you don't yet have answer for. By examining these unknowns, this gives your project sponsor the opportunity to analyse potential issues which may arise in future and any associated risks
Constraints - the known
- Event must happen by xx date
- We have a limited budget
- We have to meet the project milestones/deadlines
- We have limited staff resources

Assumptions - the unknown
- That we are able to source the venue we require
- Planning for a long time and may not have the staff with the right skills
- We can promote the event on campus
- We will have the support of management
Determining relationships
All tasks cannot run simultaneously
Tasks often depend on each other
