In late 2002, Reid recruits a team of old colleagues from SocialNet and PayPal to work on a new idea. Six months later, LinkedIn launches. Growth is slow at first—as few as 20 signups on some days—but, by the fall, it shows enough promise to attract an investment from Sequoia Capital.
LinkedIn launched Groups in 2004 to enable members to share professional insights. By 2013, Linkedin would have 2.1 million groups.
LinkedIn introduces its first business lines: Jobs and Subscriptions.
The company also moves into its fourth office in three years.
In March 2005, LinkedIn launched its first premium service: LinkedIn Jobs.
With the launch of public profiles, LinkedIn begins to stake its claim as the professional profile of record. In 2006, the company achieves profitability, and core features like Recommendations and People You May Know are introduced.

Finally in 2007, members can add photos to their profiles.
2008 Going Global
LinkedIn becomes a truly global company, opening its first international office in London and launching Spanish and French language versions of the site.
LinkedIn launches its first enterprise application: Recruiter, a tool for corporate recruiting teams to source candidates across the entire LinkedIn network.
2009 New Leadership
Jeff Weiner joins LinkedIn first as President, then CEO, and brings focus and clarity to LinkedIn's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
LinkedIn opens its API platform to all developers.
Company shifts into hyper-growth! By the end of the year, LinkedIn has 90 million members and nearly 1,000 employees in 10 offices around the world.
In 2010 LinkedIn opens a new office in the Empire State Building in New York City.
LinkedIn launches 'Apply with LinkedIn', a widget enabling job seekers to apply for jobs quickly using their LinkedIn profiles.
Project Inversion and a completely re-architected site enabled an unprecedented pace of product innovation and transformation of the site and the company, which focused on three concepts: simplify, grow, everyday.
2013 LinkedIn Turns 10
In January of our first decade, the company has reached 200 million members, and is growing at more than two members per second. We have a lot to celebrate.
2007 Growing Up
After four years as CEO, Reid steps aside to run product and brings in Dan Nye to lead the company. LinkedIn moves to Stierlin Court and opens the Customer Service center in Omaha.
In 2013 LinkedIn launches the ability for members to add rich media content to their profiles to help tell their professional stories more visually.
2011 Next Play
LinkedIn celebrates its eighth anniversary, becomes a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, and hosts a town hall with the President of the United States.
