Produced first by Saban Entertainment, later by BVS Entertainment, and currently by SCG Power Rangers LLC, the series took its initial premise and much of its footage from the Japanese tokusatsu Super Sentai franchise. Its first entry, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, debuted on August 28, 1993, and helped launch the Fox Kids programming block of the 1990s, during which it catapulted into popular culture along with a line of action figures and other toys by Bandai.[2]
Despite initial criticism for its action violence targeted to child audiences, the franchise has continued, and as of 2011 the show consists of 19 television seasons of 16 different series, and two theatrical films. In 2009, production of Power Rangers ceased and the last new series, Power Rangers RPM, ended on December 26, 2009.[3] Beginning in January 2010, the original series was rebroadcast in lieu of a new series utilizing footage from the 2009 Super Sentai television series.[4][5] On May 12, 2010, it was announced that Saban had bought back the rights to the franchise and has plans to premiere the 19th season with 43 new episodes on the Nickelodeon network.

Kimberly was one of the original five Power Rangers chosen by Zordon when Rita Repulsa attacked Earth following her release from containment. Kimberly received the Pterodactyl Power Coin and the Pterodactyl Dinozord, thus becoming the Pink Power Ranger. Kimberly starts the series as a stereotypical valley girl, but with a heightened awareness for her friends. Throughout the series, she is the member of the team most likely to fire off a sarcastic or witty retort. However, as the series progresses, she becomes a deeper and kind-hearted person, due to experiences such as switching bodies with the nerdy Billy Cranston and being turned into a punk after Baboo administers a potion to one of Kimberly's drinks. Yellow Ranger is a designation given to one fictional character in all seasons of the Power Rangers TV series. The Yellow Ranger is usually a subordinate member of the team and are usually the teams' morale boosters (with the exception of Taylor who once is the Wild Force Power Rangers' leader before Cole's arrival and a rather strong-willed individual) or level-headed in the time of crises. Yellow Rangers are primarily female with a few males. Their weapons are often single or sets of small hand weapons (such as daggers or nunchaku), though some have used swords and even hammers.
