Theodore Roosevelt was nicknamed Teddy. He was president from 1901-1909 in the USA.
The U.S.S. Roosevelt was named after him.
This was also why the teddy bear is called Teddy Bear, not Bloo Bloo Bear.
Theodore Roosevelt was a president of the USA.
His slogan was, "speak softly and carry a big stick".
There are 5,680 crew on her.
3,200 ship crew and 2,480 on the air wing/flight crew.
Nearly 30,000 light fixtures.
1,600 miles of cable and wiring.
Enough food and supplies to operate for 90 days: 18,150 meals served daily.
Distillation plants providing 400,000 gallons of fresh water from sea water daily, enough for 2,000 homes.
The weapons aboard the Roosevelt include: 3 Mk 29 NATO sea sparrow launchers and 3 20mm Mk-15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System or CIWS.
The first weapon is about as big garage and the missiles are normally worth as much as a luxury/sports car. The second is as big as a garden shed and has bullets that are about as big as a ping-pong ball.
What I think is the coolest thing about this ship is that the area of the flight deck is four and a half acres!!
The main port is NewPort News shipbuilding co in VA
Some of the words that I think are kind of weird are the following:
Mk15 Phalanx CIWS
Mk29 NATO sea sparrow launcher
1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour = 6076 feet per hour
The beam of a ship is its width at the widest point as measured at the ship's nominal waterline.
The draft of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull.
