In the dark we fantasize monsters that seem real. So monsters are not physically real and can't hurt you but can exist in your mind.

We imagine monsters and make them seem real so people believe they are real. The answer to you is a matter of belief. But physically not real. Like they can't jump out at you from under the bed.
Monsters were never scientifically proven real. There for people believe that if they can't prove there real then they must be hiding from being discovered.
We imagine things that seem real in the dark.

Things like boxes and even small toys, like marbles can form an image of a monster in your mind.
Some things don't have an explanation but look real. It could just be a fake model that someone set up to seem real.
Different things can make different monsters that come appart from vampires to werewolfs.
