Population: Cleveland High School Students
Sample: 24 AP Statistics students, randomized through a random data table from the population of the class. What: 4 treatments with 6 students per treatment; Coca Cola, Refreshe Cola, Sprite and Refreshe Lemon-Lime.
EACH student was handed one of the following: WHAT? WHO? LETTER: COLOR: National Brand Generic Brand (Black or Blue) (A or B) WHERE? Where: to prevent students from exchanging ideas and answers during the experiment, which could cause potential bias, our experiment was conducted in Mr. Pratt's room. WHY? Why: our method was conducted as so to prevent as much bias as possible from occurring. With the experimental procedure we set up, our experiment was because the only one who knew which soda was which was the all-knowing Claudette. The subjects did not know which soda was which, and neither did the administrator (David), facilitator (EJ) or moderator (Rodriguez). double-blind HOW? Experiment steps:
Group 1 given the sample paper and escorted to the experiment location. They were given cup 1, labeled with a " ". After undergoing the treatment, they marked the paper accordingly. blue A Group 2 underwent the same procedure, but with cup 2, labeled with a " ". blue B Group 3 underwent the same procedure, but with cup 3, labeled with a black "A". Group 4 underwent the same procedure, but with cup 4, labeled with a black "B". TREE DIAGRAM Student Distribution: B A Group received Refreshe Lemon Lime.
Group received Sprite.
Group A received Refreshe Cola.
Group B received Coca Cola. A B DATA: 2/6 students determined sprite correctly.

9/12 students determined the correct answer. This was 1.155 standard deviations below the mean, which is not sufficient data to prove that testers could recognize sprite or refreshe lemon lime. LEMON-LIME FLAVORED COLA FLAVORED The expected value of the cola flavored sodas was 6/12 guesses while the experimental value was 9/12. This was nearly 2 standard deviations (1.732) above the mean, which is sufficient proof for our group to determine that testers could in fact recognize national brand cola from generic brand cola. That's only 0.408 standard deviations above the mean, which is not sufficient data to prove that subjects could recognize national brand soda versus generic brand soda.
