Where, When and Who bred the Pug? Why were Pugs bred? What are the breeds pugs were bred from? Physical Characteristic Needs and Upkeep: Pugs original function and today’s function are very similar. Back then Chinese bred pugs to adorn the laps of the Chinese royals and today they are considered as pet/lap dogs. No one really knows because it was bred so long ago, but scientists believe a bulldog and a King Charles Spaniel or a Pekingese were crossed to form a pug. - PUGS Well, Pugs were bred in East China during the Shang Dynasty, 400 B.C. Corneal ulcer is when the pug blinks to much or starts tearing, this problem has not found a cure so far.Obesity is another problem within pugs. Eye tests and diets are suggested for pugs.
