1 in 8 people world wide do not have access to safe and clean drinking water.
Poaching is the illegal hunting, capture, or collecting of wildlife. Snaring is a common form of subsistence poaching and can lead to the maiming of many animals not intended for consumption.

Nearly a billion, 884 million people do not have access to clean and safe water. 37% of those people live in Sub-Saharan Africa.
443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases.
Half of the world's hospital beds are filled with people suffering from a water-related disease.

6 PBL "Issues" ...
The many "issues" of Africa!
“Genocide,” a term used to describe violence against members of a national, ethnical, racial or religious group with the intent to destroy the entire group.
Throughout this project your group will be make a PSA to inform your audience of an "issue" in Africa. Your PSA will be persuading your audience to take action by donating to your charity.
While this PBL will only address 6 "issues" there are many others we will be discussing throughout the PBL.
At the end of this project you will be presenting your PSA to HMS students to help a charity raise money! Your hard work in this PSA is likely to change someones life.
Let's get started exploring the 6 "issues" of Africa.
Africa PSA PBL
Malaria claims the lives of 483,000 children per year- 90% of those in Africa. That's 1,300 kids who lose their lives to a mosquito bite everyday.
Approximately 925 million people across the world are hungry.
More than 9 million children under age 5 die every year, and malnutrition accounts for more than one-third of these deaths. Most of these children live in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
