A laser is a machine that makes billions of atoms pump out trillions of light particles all at once so they line up to form a really concentrated light beam.
How lasers work
The first working laser was demonstrated on 16th May 1960.
Lasers were discovered by Theodore Maiman
who discovered laser
The first use of lasers in the daily lives of the general population was the supermarket barcode scanner, introduced in 1974.

Laser beams can be made from visible light, x-rays, ultraviolet light or infrared light.

• In medicine: - they can destroy some cancer cells
- operation of the human eye

• In telecommunications:
- they transmit millions of television channels
- they act survey instruments
- they can measure vast distances
- Lasers can guide gigantic machines
- They can cut, drill, and weld metals
- Lasers make it possible to create holograms, or three-dimensional images
- Holography gives clear underwater pictures and lets pilots see their instruments without looking down at them.
- Holography lets physicians view broken bones and human organs.
