that takes up space!
It takes the earth 24 hours to rotate (SPIN) on its axis.
is measured by mass.
Mass is HOW MUCH there IS of an object!
We measure mass in grams and kilograms.
(using a scale or balance)
States of Matter
Solid-(Has a definite shape)
Liquid-(No shape, takes the shape of its container, & can be poured)
Gas- (No shape, expands to take the shape of its container)
This rotation (spinning) causes day and night.
It takes the earth about 365 days
to revolve around the sun.
This revolution is the same
as one year.
The tilt of the earth's axis and its place in its orbital path around the sun cause the seasons.
It takes the moon about 1 month (28 days) to revolve around the earth.
Examples of physical properties:
Scientists describe the physical properties of objects.
(These are the characteristics about an object.)
What are the physical properties of each of these balls?
Which of these has offspring that looks like its parent?
The gravitational pull
of the moon causes the tides.
Animal and Plant Adaptations
5 components of soil:
rocks and pebbles
A natural resource
that takes a VERY long time to form
SO we need to conserve it!
Weathering and Erosion
is the breaking down of rock.
is the movement of soil (or the broken down pieces of rock).
Which simple machines make up these compound machines?
population: a number
of a type of animal or plant living in a habitat
...ONLY 1 type!
the organisms living together in a place)
community: a place (habitat)
What's the population
of dragonflies in this pond?
