Why do we keep
negative relationships around?

Many different types of relationships
Each have their own rules and boundaries
Family: basis of ALL RELATIONSHIPS; FIRST learn about love/care through our family
Friends: someone you know well and link with TRUST, RESPECT, AND UNDERSTANDING
Casual: the people you encounter daily; NOT friends or family; “acquaintances”
Romantic: relationship dealing with intimacy; love, respect, and trust are key components
**HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS are:
Not verbally, emotionally, OR physically abusive
Include respect, love, trust
**UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS ARE:
Based on selfishness and negative foundations
Verbally, emotionally, and/or physically abusive
**FAMILY: groups bonded by strong emotional connections
*Nuclear Family – mother, father, children
Step-parents; step and half siblings
Multiple generations (i.e.-grandparents living in the same house)
*Families comm. DIFFERENTLY based on their personalities (i.e.- "Tom's mom is so cool!")
*Family Commmunication: good listening skills +
Family Stability: how families adapt to change
Issues that affect F.S.:
Finances, death, illness, divorce, substance abuse, parent leaving
