What is an Electronic Health Record?
An electronic health record is a digital version of a patient's paper chart. They are real-time, patient-centered records that make information available instantly and securely to authorized users

Improved legibility of clinical notes
Access anytime and anywhere
Reduced duplication
Reminders for tests
Records diagoses, allergies, surgeries, etc.

Safety and Security
HIPPA regulates all of the the EHR records
Username and password required for entry into the system
The Audit Trail: A record of who entered each EHR, when, and where
Only necessary information for nurses to take care of their patients is visible.
Stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
It is the main source of governement regulations for electronic health records
Gives patientes control over the use of their health information
Sets guidlines for healthcare providers that they must follow
Coordinate Care
This allows each doctor or physician to see information that other doctors or physicians have enterted into your chart.
This reduces the amount of questions each doctor or nurse has to ask.
