What is MasterChef
MasterChef is a competition between some of the best home cooks in America. You try out and if you qualify then you get the apron that you will want to keep. Then you go through Mystery Boxes and Elimination Tests to get into the top 12. Once you are there you will start doing Team Challenges. They are all judged by the guest judges. Almost all of the challenges are judged by the three judges (Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot, and Joe Bastianich). When you get eliminated you must give up your apron.
Gordon Ramsay is a Scottish chef, restaurateur and television personality. He has been awarded 15 Michelin stars in total and currently holds 14. He was born in Johnstone, United Kingdom. He has been on so many TV shows but these are just some of the most popular, Kitchen Nightmares, Hell's Kitchen, MasterChef, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, Hotel Hell, Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live, Ramsay's Best Restaurant, Hotel GB, The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, America's Best Restaurant. It is rumored that he is the meanest judge on MasterChef.
Graham Elliot was born in Seattle, Washington. His first position following culinary school was at the Mansion on Turtle Creek, a five diamond/five-star property in Dallas. He is one of the three judges on MasterChef. In 2007, he faced off against Iron Chef Bobby Flay on the TV show Iron Chef America, with the secret ingredient of chocolate.He narrowly lost to Flay by a total score of 49-47.
Joe is a restaurateur and vineyard owner. He is also one of the three judges on MasterChef. He was also on MasterChef Italia, Lidia’s Italy and he will be on Junior MasterChef. It is also rumored that Joe is the meanest judge on MasterChef, it's either him or Gordon. He has participated in several marathons and triathlons. Joe completed the Ironman World Championships in 2011 with a time of 12:31:39, placing 1428th out of 1918.
What are the Mystery Boxes, you ask? In the Mystery Box Challenge, contestants receive a number of ingredients of which they are to make a dish of their choice. The contestants are allowed to use any number of the ingredients they are given, and are free to leave any ingredients out. Once the dishes are finished, the judges choose three of the dishes to taste.The winner usually gets to make a decision out of some of the items that the judges pick for the other contestants in the elimination test. The winner also doesn’t have to cook in the elimination test.
The judges take the Mystery Box challenger to the pantry and explain the theme of the Elimination Test in private. This chef is told of their advantages, which can include automatic advancement to the next round, selecting the specific theme of the test, or assigning certain ingredients to specific chefs as to challenge their competition. The rest of the chefs are then informed of the decision, and given five minutes to collect any ingredients from the pantry they need and a fixed amount of time to complete the dish. Judges evaluate all dishes based on taste and visual appeal (although only some of them are featured in the episode), and select one or two dishes as the winners of the competition to become captains in the Team Challenge. The bottom three (or more) dishes are criticized, and the judges select one of those chefs to leave the competition; those that are eliminated must remove their apron and place them on their station before they leave.
The chefs are taken to an off-site location where they are split into teams by the team captains, typically through a schoolyard pick. The teams will typically have to prepare a meal for one hundred or more diners in a limited amount of time. Diners will sample meals from both teams and will later vote as to which meal they preferred. If a diner does not get a meal from a team due to food not being ready on time, that team automatically forfeits the vote. The losing team will participate in the Pressure Test once they return to the MasterChef kitchen.
Members of the losing team, in a Team Challenge, compete against each other to make a standard dish within a limited amount of time that requires a great degree of cooking finesse. Some of the losing team members may not have to participate. This would be determined by the judges or the team captain, and they are sent to watch the challenge from the balcony along with the winning team members. Each dish is judged on taste, visual appeal, and technique, and the losing chef is eliminated from the challenge; that chef must remove their apron and place it on their station before they leave the competition.

What do you win?
Before you win, the two left in the challenge face off in preparing a complete three course meal (appetizer, main course, and dessert) in a certain amount of time, in which both the individual dishes and the overall meal's composition are evaluated by the judges. The judges then select the winner of Masterchef. When you become the Masterchef, you get your own cookbook, the Masterchef trophy, and $100,000.

What is a Michelin star?
To be a Michelin star chef you need to do the following: First, you attend a world class culinary arts school to become a professional Chef. Then, if you have what it takes, you may land a job in a well respected kitchen being trained by an experienced Chef. Hopefully, you will learn much and progress through the various stations in the kitchen. Perhaps then, you will be ready to move on to your first head Chef Position. If you're good ... really good, and your food is exceptional, you might be able to qualify for a star. You earn that star for your restaurant by being among the best of the best.
