Transcript of Forrest Gump Historical Events

The 50's 1955 1950 1954 The Vietnam War begins and many Americans are sent overseas to defend their country. 1956 Elvis makes his famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan show. He performs “Hound Dog” and his lower waist is hidden from the cameras because his dancing is too inappropriate for television. 1960 1965 1970 1975 1963 Governor George Wallace refuses to let two black students attend the University of Alabama. JFK orders him to move immediately and brings the National Guard to be sure he left. The two black students registered for classes after George Wallace was forced to leave. 1965 The March on Washington for peace occurs. This is a massive protest featuring thousands of people who all believe that the war in Vietnam should stop. 1972 Nixon and his administration are a part of the Watergate Scandal. The scandal is against the Democratic Party and it's purpose is to get Nixon reelected. The 60's The 70's 1974 Hurricane Carmen blasts the Atlantic destroying many boats and tearing up the land surrounding the shore. Forrest Gump Timeline 1980 1985 1982 There is an HIV/AIDS outbreak in America. The public is now fully aware of the causes and effects of the disease. 1963 Oswald assassinates President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. America is sent into a panic and grieves the loss of their beloved President. The 80's 1969 Neil Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon. America is the first nation to send a man on the moon. Technology is expanding 1974 Nixon resigns from Presidency due to the Watergate Scandal. 1981 John Hinckley Jr. attempts to kill President Ronald Reagan. He fails and leaves the President with bullet wounds.
