Transcript of In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and codes and conventions of real media products

Codes and conventions I followed the codes and
conventions of my chosen genre by doing
a number of things Firstly, I created a unique and recondiseable title, this is
so the name of my magazine could be noticed anywhere.
This is a trademark for my magazine as no other magazine will
have a title like mine. I also believe that my title cannotes the
style of my magazine
The next thing that I did that followed the codes and conventions of
an indie magazine is my main picture, I photographed one of my friends in the style of a typical indie. I made her look directly at the camera as the cannotes domanince, this follows part of the codes and conventions of a professional magazine front cover, as images on professional magazines usually dominate the page as they are the main feature article.
I also used a plain background, as this made the picture look like it was taken in a studio. The main reason I chose domoniance is because this is the most common technique used in profossional magazines. The main coverline on my magazine is the largest
text apart from the title on my front cover, I have done this as this anchors the main image to the front cover of the magazine. The coverlines that I have used are small, catchy
and short. I have done this because The coverlines and sell lines that I have chosen are short and are one or two words, and I have used aliteration on some of the sell lines such as 'BEST BANDS', the coverlines that I have used are short, this is following the codes and conventions, I have also followed the codes and conventions of a professional magazine by using a smaller font on the coverlines. The coverlines and the sub lines on my magazine front cover are all the same font so they are all consistant with eachother, I did this so it would look more balanced and also this makes it look more professional as most magazines use the same font and size when looking at coverlines and sublines Heres an example of an professional magazine front cover using all the same text for the coverline's and sublines. I have made all the coverlines on my magazine front cover attractive and eye-catching. This is because this is whats unlimatly attracts the reader to the magazine, and if the coverlines are boring then they are not going to want to buy the magazine. On my magazine I have placed all the coverlines and sell lines around the image, I have done this as this doesnt cover the main image. This follows the codes and conventions of a professional magazine front cover. The Bar code I have chosen to put the bar code on the front of my magazine, I have done this because this leaves room for advertising on the back page. This agrees with the codes and conventions of a professional magazine cover. The date and time on my magazine are 11pt just like the For the date and time I have used the letter size of 11pt as this follows the codes and conventions of a professional magazine, this will show how that my music magazine could actually be on a shelf in a newsagents. fjfb Positioning Statement I have placed the positioning statement below my title, my positioning statement is 'EXCLUSIVE, BETHAN JONES, The atmosphere of a gig is what I play for' this will attract the auidence as it is eye-catching and interesting, this will make the readers want to pick up my magazine and read it. This follows the code and conventions of a magazine front cover. Buzz words I have used buzz words on my magazine such as 'EXCLUSIVE', this will entice all my target auidence to read the magazine, also, this makes the reader feel 'exclusive' like they are the only ones reading the magazine. This follows the codes and conventions of a professional magazine. Apperance In regaurds to apperance, I havee chosen to put a strip at the bottom of my magazine front cover, I have done this because this makes the magazine more professional, I have done this so I can include artists names so nobody go's dismissed. This agrees with the codes and conventions of a music magazine front cover. Colour Schemes I have used a simple colour scheme on my magazine, I have used dark blue, grey and black. I have chosen these colours because when doing a questionnaire they came out as popular colours for my target auidence. Double page spread The colour scheme for my double page spread is simple, this follows the codes and conventions, I chose to use the colour blue and black, this links back to my front cover. The dark blue doesnt distract the readers from the contents of the double page spread as it is dark and wont be eye-catching. Having a main image as a background was important to me I did this not only because it follows the codes and conventions of a music magazine front cover but because I believe that it looks effective and it makes the magazine look more professional. I took random pictures of my chosen band, and I used (as my background picture) a picture that shows character, so the reader almost knows the band without even reading the interview yet. This is the picture that I used for my
double page spread. Quotes I have used one quote on my double
page spread, which is 'We dont care about fame its all about the music' this will attract the auidence as they want to know more about the artical. As they dont really tell the reader what the artical is all about. This follows the codes and conventions of a double page spread. On my double page spread, I used a drop capital for the first letter on my double page spread, I did this because not only does it tell the readers were to start reading but it also gives the sense of professionalism. The headline on my double page spread is
'Are you a believer?' this rhetorical question makes the reader want to read on as this doesnt exactly tell the reader what the artical is about, I did this because this is what most music magazines do to entice them to a double page spread. The standfirst is the one that usually tells the reader what the artical is about on my magazine the standfirst is 'Poppy Street interviews the new and upcoming band Dear Believer' this follows the codes and conventions of music magazine double page spread. The layout that I have chosen to use is three columns, I have done this because this is the most common layout for a double page spread. My double page spread carries on to three pages. The tone of interview, as it uses alot of slang, I have done this because my target auidence do not want to read a formal interview, moreover, when the interview uses slang it makes the reader feel like they are almost speaking to the band and actually asking the questions themselves. This follows the codes and conventions of an interview of a double page spread. By Poppy-Jo Street
