Caldecott Award What are the different types of Book Awards? Why are book awards given? It is awarded to the artist of the most distinguished picture book of the year.
[1938-present] Geisel Award Newbery Award Sibert Award Batchelder Coretta Scott King An award given to an outstanding children's book originally published in
another country, in a different
language. A yearly award given to the author and illustrator of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers.
[2006-present] What did we
learn today? The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book
Award, created in 2001, is awarded to the author(s) & illustrator(s) of the most
distinguished informational book. The Newbery Medal was named for 18th century British bookseller John Newbery. It is awarded to the
author of the most distinguished contribution to
American literature for children.
[1922-present] The Coretta Scott King Book Awards are given to outstanding
African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults that demonstrate an appreciation of African American culture and universal human values. The award commemorates the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and honors his wife,
Mrs. Coretta Scott King, for her courage and determination to
continue the work for peace and world brotherhood.
