She has had a number of solo exhibitions, starting from 2004 all the way through to 2011
2005 to current date, she has been in a great amount of group exhibitions.
Contribution to Photography
Gütschow’s work shows the relationship between reality and photographic representation.
She mentions, "My photos are constructions, even though every single part of it represents reality.."
The S series (Stadt / City) is made up of large black and white photographs that are made up of multiple images.

These reference documentary photography
LS (Landschaft/landscape) was Beate's first series.
In her photos she tries to "re-invent" 17th and 18th century paintings into photographs.
She uses computer softwares to montage image fragments to photos so that they stick to the compositional principles of the ideal landscape.
In her newest series (Interior) she starts an investigation of advertizing photography, which consists of composing objects such as;
Overhead projector into surreal scenes in her studio
From 1993 to 2000, Beate studied at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, and in 1998 she studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts
From 2009-2010 she was a guest professor at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig.
Currently she is a professor at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne.
