This visual gives a high-over view of Functions its functionality. Just a limited amount of applications is mentioned. It is co-created by relevant domain architects of IT Functions.
In general, the machine room of Functions works for the Finance and Risk Chain (FRR). Six of the eight grids work for FRR thereby containing several dependencies. The other two grids, HR and Communication & Sustainability are quite independent.
receives a lot of data from a lot of systems from several business lines. It delivers the basic balance of profits and losses in the end of the month. First a control takes place whereupon all details are defined to a detailed balance. In the end it shows the financial position of the bank. This is necessary to comply to the rules of the ECB, DNB and the law.
exists of two applications: SAP BI and SAP ECC. These two are highly integrated. Analysis of data is done and the reporting to business objects.
is a standard package which carries out the management of hedges. A hedge is a connection between two opposite operating financial instruments like derivates to mitigate profit and loss effects for instance. The testing and the adjustment of financial administration is done as well within Summix.
Furthermore you see two clouds which have a huge impact on Functions. One is
, an International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) promulgated by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). It addresses the accounting for financial instruments. The other one is
a potential future platform for Finance and Risk systems.
IT Landscape Functions
Functions is high dependent on its neighbors’ data. A lot of functionalities are built in the systems of Functions to cope with low data quality. This is all extra functionality.
Eventually the data used within the applications is reported to several instances. The business lines responsible for the delivery of data are now receiving processed data as well.
Furthermore, this data is reported to several instances outside the bank, like De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and the European Central Bank (ECB).
is important for managing Interest Rate Risk. Balance sheet analysis is done as well as forecasting. It is important to comply to DNB and ECB. Also it is important for stress testing which includes the testing of all kinds of scenarios possibly influencing the bank its performance. Without QRM the board of directors has no idea where the bank is going.
The Reporting grid is the largest within Functions. Within
accounting and reporting is done. You can say that cross-grid cooperation is quite important here! In Axiom, the manual accounting process is facilitated. All data from the balance and the profits and losses is processed in Axiom. Every gap which is not automatically filled is to be filled in manually. After that, all data is transformed into reports ready to go the other business lines or instances outside the bank like DNB.
The main functionality of
is consolidation. All balances and profit and loss numbers are integrated into one big balance for the ABN AMRO Group. Financial reports and consolidation reports follow. These data is also relevant for the annual report.
Also mentioned on the visual is the Capital & Control Chain (C&CC) or Basel Chain. This chain exists of subsystems
MDL, RAY and RDM. Important output is the
Risk-Weighted Asset (RWA).
The RWA is leading in deciding on the amount of capital ABN AMRO should maintain against the provided credits. It is also input for the reporting to DNB. By some other systems in the

is delivered as output which is input for internal strategic steering. This output goes back to the several relevant business lines.

. Risk services can provide objective scores, trends and predictions. These are delivered by complex built models. The aim is to provide this service also to external parties making R-Lab a possible moneymaker instead of a cost.
calculates the amount of provisions needed to cover credit losses.
quite an old system, is a Datawarehouse system. By that it plus adjusts received data from several systems like data about mortgages and loans. It receives mainly data from FBS. In the end, the data is relevant for MI to take decisions by several business lines.

Operational Risks are covered here. Registration of losses and deciding on preventing measures to cover operational risk. Think about fraud, skimming and fishing. But also operational risks of a failed internal project.

is about the capturing and correlation of diverse fraud related events. It is based on facts. Data come from a lot of sources varying from transaction data to data coming from the police within the Netherlands.
