Problem that is prevailing in Cebu

Increasing crime rates and violence in parts of Cebu. Specifically in poverty-ridden places in Cebu like Colon, Carbon, Pasil, and etc. Which violates the Christian Social Teachings of Peace and Non-Violence.

Gaudium et Spes
” (Joy and Hope) The document is an overview of the Catholic Church's teachings about humanity's relationship to society, especially in reference to economics, poverty, social justice, culture, science, technology and ecumenism.

It is a harmony in the human heart and in the social order brought about by justice, requiring for human dignity and human rights, the promotion of the common good and the constant practice of solidarity.

Thus says the Lord GOD: Enough, you princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression, and do what is right and just! Stop evicting my people! says the Lord GOD.

And also “
Pacem in Terris
” (Peace on Earth) enumerated the rights of the human person to life, respect, freedom and education as well as working towards the end of nuclear weapons, and arms race.

The goal of CPC is the involvement of various movements dedicated to upholding and improving peace and active nonviolence stated in STC’s (Social Teaching of the Church) concept.

Last year, crime rates in Cebu has increased ranging from the months of January to August by 72% ranging from muggings, robberies, holdups, and terrorist acts. These crimes violate the Social Teachings in “Pacem in Terris” most specifically the “right to life”.

On the research of the crimes rates in Cebu most major motivators of violence are “injustices, poverty, and, corruption”.

In summary, the social teachings help society in maintaining peace by relating to each person in each person’s reference and point of view.
CPC also aims to improve various problems of the related to poverty and join in movements that require help in improving the quality of life of various poverty ridden districts of Cebu.

As various districts of Cebu continue to grow poorer and more desperate. It is clear that the major motivation of violence are directed from poverty and injustice that is very common in various third-world areas.

Definition of the problem
The various problems plaguing Cebu include the increase crime rate in Cebu.

The violence in Cebu ranging from holdups to shootouts. Most of these problems are sourced towards the problems of society like poverty and lack of security.

By giving help to various movements it may show significant improvements in progress for peace.

Various solutions instated by the Cebu Government
The Government is made so that peace and non-violence solution can be obtainedso that people in Cebu can have a diplomatic way in resolving conflicts.

One of the government departments who played a major role in maintaining peace is the Department of Justice, this department is purposely made to provide justice to people who are a victim of crimes in a peaceful way and also this department provides non-violent solutions to the problems of the victims.
Another departmentis the Philippine National police who maintains the order and peace in our country.The Philippine Department of the Interior and Local Governmenthas also a major role in keeping the peace in our country including Cebu.
