Transcript of Caroline Holley - Miss Teen Ontario East 2010
-Lou Buscaglia The Pageant Weekend Over the course of the pageant weekend the delegates take part in events throughout the community, dance practices, a talent showcase, interviews, hair and make-up consultations, fun games and so much more! What does Miss Teen Ontario East do? Miss Teen Ontario East = MTOE What I have learned since becoming Miss Teen Ontario East 2010 Through being a role model for young people in Ontario East I like to lead by example. Encouraging community volunteering and sharing of individual talents. I believe we all have the potential to make a difference in the world. You may not realize it but every choice you make and everything you do has a consequence. You don't have to end world hunger or conquer world peace to make a difference. A simple smile, a helping hand, and words of encouragement are the way in which I plan to make a difference in the world. I am only one person, so I can't expect to solve all of the world’s problems, but I can make a difference. When someone is feeling down, a simple hello and a smile can make everything suddenly seem alright. Making someone feel like they belong and have someone to talk to when they are feeling alone, caring for someone when they are sick and have no one to help them. These are small things that may seem like they are too small to change people or situations but they can really make a difference. I have always tried to live according to this code, but for the past few years I have been consciously making these small random acts of kindness a more common occurrence. Thinking about how easy it is to give a person in need a sense of joy or accomplishment gives me hope for the future. Volunteer Work CHEO Telethon Green Ribbon Campaign Bake Sale for CHEO Canada Day Santa Claus Parade Do It For Dad Run/Walk Walk For KIDS Help Phone Relay For Life Candlelighters Golf Tournament Renfrew Victoria Hospital Tree Lighting Ceremony As MTOE I have many responsibilities! Being an advocate for our focus charity; the Candlelighters, promoting and raising awareness for other charities and organizations, being present at local events and activities and striving to be a responsible, role model for young girls to look up to. The Candlelighters Mission is: "To enrich the lives of children and their families coping with childhood cancer. Promote awareness and understanding of the impact of childhood cancer on children and their families." Candlelighters Mission How I have grown.. Thus far, MTOE has given me the opportunity to continue with my volunteering, in the capacity that at the same time; through my title drawing attention, creating a lead for others to see and follow, and encouraging them to believe that every little bit counts, and every helping hand is of utmost importance towards achieving a common goal!
From bake sales to BBQs, carwashes to picnics, parades to galas, judging competitions to participating in walks, runs and relays, speeches to listening, inspiring to being inspired. MTOE has allowed me the opportunity to grow as a person as a whole and to truly cherish what it means to make a difference!
