Transcript of Love the Lord Your God with All Your Homework

"School is just a distraction from my life as a disciple!"
Love the Lord Your God with
All Your Homework

Why should I
do well in school?

It helps you
professionally
and financially.

"The Bible doesn't say
anything about school!"
Suffering
builds
character.
Rom. 5,
Jas. 1
It helps bring people to Christ.
(How?)
It's a way of loving
God
and loving
people
.

"But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 'Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?' And he said to him, '
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it:
You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets'" (Matthew 22.34-40, ESV).
Thirty-nine books and 613 commandments
in the Old Testament.

How does Jesus sum it all up?

LOVE GOD
and
LOVE PEOPLE
.

Everything we do flows from that.
Evangelism
Serving the needy
Prayer
Academic excellence
Holiness
Bible study
Fasting
What's the
connection
here?
After all,
this isn't
usually how
we think.
Doing your best,
NOT
grades!
Everybody!
Honesty
(including
all of our
classmates
and
teachers)
...even Ms. Butts
Our Focus
Today

Everything we
do is part
of our lives
as disciples.
How can we love our classmates and teachers?
FRIENDLY!
What annoys you in a classmate or teacher?
What do you like in a classmate or teacher?
Don't do that.
Do that.
(That was easy!)
gets to know people, helps them with assignments
(amazingly
counter-cultural)
ATTENTIVE!
takes good notes, punctual (which includes SHOWING UP), knows and understands what's going on in the class
HUMBLE!
goes to office hours, asks for help, doesn't show off or pretend not to need help
HARD-
WORKING!
(to be continued...)
UNPROCRAS-TINATORY!
(not a word, but you
get the idea)
I DID NOT
ALWAYS
DO THIS!
GRADES

EXCELLENCE
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do
everything
in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. [...]
Whatever
you do,
work heartily
, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ" (Colossians 3.17, 23-24, ESV).
