9pm - Every sunday for 8 weeks 6.94 million viewers on the latest episode. A new drama set in the East End of London in 1889 during the aftermath of Jack The Ripper murders. The infamous H Division - the police precinct charged with keeping order in the district of Whitechapel- is in a chaotic state trying to keep order after a tumultuous time for London and reported infamously worldwide Sergeant Bennett Drake
Drake is Reid's right-hand man. A brute of a detective who, outside of his suit, doesn't have a lot to distinguish him (on face value) from the thugs he polices. Drake is ex-army and hard as Portland stone. He is also fiercely loyal to Reid. It was the Inspector who first saw the potential in him – beyond a supreme ability to crack heads.
Crucially, Drake – unlike many coppers – does not see himself as morally superior to the populace he polices. He has known the horrors of war and knows of what monstrosities all men, including himself, are capable; horrors that will come back to haunt him.
Above all else, Drake wishes to find a way to escape his thug status and the dehumanising memories he carries with him. Inspect Edmund Reid is the boss of H division, Reid was one of the lead detectives in the ripper investigation. He is formally dressed which connotes that he may be rich and he shows his respect and that he is a serious man. An American army surgeon, he is an expert in the world of early forensics. Enlisted by Reid for his unique skills on the autopsy slab, he is a free spirit, untrustworthy and brilliant by equal measure. official website page
