INSTRUCTIONS
ITALIAN SCULPTOR, PAINTER

1. Place your paper vertically on your work surface; this is called
portrait style
.

2. PUT YOUR NAME AND CLASSROOM GRADE ON THE BACK OF THE PAPER!

3. Sketch your self portrait drawing with a pencil very lightly on the paper.

4. When you are finished sketching, use a crayon to draw a dark line over your pencil lines. These outlines are called
contour lines
.

5. Paint the shapes you have drawn with the crayon using watercolor. Notice how the wax in the crayon stops the paint from covering the contour lines. This is called a
wax resist.
