The Thirteen Colonies Pennsylvania By Sarah Nichols Climate and Geography Climate Geography Pennsylvania has moist climate with cold winters and warm summers. The Northern and western parts of this great colony are colder than the southern and eastern parts. The Blue Ridge Mountains run through Pennsylvania. The southeastern part is extremely fertile. Three fifths (3/5) of the entire colony is forest. With the many forests in Pennsylvania, there is plenty of timber to go around. That brings us to the... Natural Resources The colony of Pennsylvania has rich soil, immense water supply, plentiful timber, and great mineral wealth. The Middle Colonies are called the bread-basket colonies because of all of the wheat grown there. European People A Quaker, William Penn, founded Pennsylvania. The Quakers, English, and German have settled in Pennsylvania. Government The government of Pennsylvania is a democracy. The Charter of Privileges, a constitution signed in 1701, gave more power to the people. Economy Some ways that people in Pennsylvania made money was manufacturing steel and machinery, farming, and mining. They also had a way of communicating and learning new news, the newspaper. Religion The Amish and Mennonites were both protestant groups called the Pennsylvania Deutch. They followed Lutheran or German reformed churches. Pennsylvania is different from the other thirteen colonies. This is because it's industrial and has fertile soil. The fertile soil of Pennsylvania gives us plentiful resources. There is a temperate climate in this colony. There is a sea port, Philadelphia. And most importantly, a government that the people run. Why you should move to Pennsylvania.
