Transcript of Shake It Off - Taylor Swift

Similes/Metaphors
Unfortunately there are no similes or metaphors in this song. In replace of this I'll list some other literary devices.
Some repetition is; play, play, play, play, play/hate, hate, hate, hate, hate/shake, shake, shake, shake, shake/break, break, break, break, break/fake, fake, fake, fake, fake.
Theme
The Theme of Shake It Off is Ignorance. Not the kind where somebody is snobby but the actual word Ignore with ance on the end. I wasn't quite sure what the word I was looking for was called, so i made one up. I think this is the theme because Taylor Swift mentions in not only the song but also in interviews that she has learned to ignore her critics and haters, and that everyone else should aswell. As she mentions in the song, she "Shakes Off" her critics where only then she can live care free.
Implicit Meaning
I feel that the implicit meaning of Shake It Off, is tolerance. I think this because she mentions that people are always talking about and hating on her. (As mentioned in the lyrics below. She then goes on saying how the "Faker's gonna fake, the heart breaker's gonna break and the player's gonna play. She then mentions "Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off" implying that she doesn't care what others think and she's her own independent person.
Writers
The song Shake It Off was written by Taylor Swift, Max Martin and Shellback. Although Taylor Swift recorded and performed this single, she is not responsible for writing this piece on her own.
Performer
The Performer of the song Shake It Off is Taylor Swift.

Shake It Off
Explicit Meaning
As Taylor Swift says; "The message in Shake It Off is a problem we all deal with on a daily basis. It involves there always being people who want to see you fall and people who aren't always going to please you. The "Shake It Off" is trying to tell you to, well to literally "Shake It Off". It means to ignore the haters and people who aren't helping you succeed.
Songs As Poetry

Taylor Swift
I stay out too late
Got nothing in my brain
That's what people say, mmm-mmm
That's what people say, mmm-mmm

I go on too many dates [chuckle]
But I can't make them stay
At least that's what people say, mmm-mmm
That's what people say, mmm-mmm
"I've had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple years that people can say whatever they want about at any time, and we cannot control that," said Swift. "The only thing we can control is our reaction to that … You can either let it get to you … [or] you just shake it off" -Taylor Swift
Descriptive Language and Symbolism
Before I start I want to mention that this song is very bland when it comes to poetic devices. Ahead of time I thought that picking a Taylor Swift song would have a lot of it, I was wrong...
Some adjectives in this song (descriptive language) include; I'm
lightning
on my feet,
dirty
cheats of the world, with the
hella good
hair. That's basically it when it comes to descriptive language in this song. I could not find any symbolism anywhere to do with this song.
