Web. 21 Oct. 2012. <http://bible.org/seriespage/flood-genesis-69-822>. The reason for the flood was because God saw that the wickedness of man was great on earth ( A sinful world). Once He saw this he decided that he needed to fix this, and the way God would fix this would be by flooding the world and cleansing it of sin. By God doing this it was also somewhat similar to us being baptized which is like us being cleansed of Original Sin The covenant with God and Noah Genesis 9:11 - "Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth." God is saying that he will never flood the world again. The disobedience of Adam and Eve and their consequent loss of God's grace and the peace and happiness of the Garden of Eden. When they ate the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God punished them by driving them out of the garden and into the world, where they would be subject to sickness, pain, and eventual death. God told Eve that she would give birth in sorrow and pain; Adam's curse was that he would have to work hard to earn his livelihood.
This is how sin spread through the world; the fall of man. Biographical Information Number One Noah was married with three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japeth. His wife's name, according to Jewish tradition, was said to be Naamah. Number Two When the flood started, it was said that Noah was about 600 years old. Noah was about 500 - 600 years old when he began building the ark that God instructed him to build. Number Three Noah's father, Lamech, gave him the name Noah because it means "rest" and connects with the name nāham, which means "comfort." Red Represents the color of blood, blood shed by Jesus, who saved us from our sins. The Covenant Points Forward to the Church The Covenant Points Forward to Jesus St. Peter tells us in the New Testament that Noah and the Flood symbolizes the purification we receive through Baptism that is available because of Christ's salvation. The flood washed away the sins of the old world, and allowed the world a fresh start. Similarly, Baptism washes away our sins (Original Sin), and allows us a fresh start. When the olive branch was offered up in the story of Noah, it meant there was still "good" in the world and was a symbol of doing the right thing and being the better person. When Jesus sacrificed himself for us, he opened the gates to heaven and allowed us to access that "good'. The Promises of the Covenant God Promised Noah that never again would water be sent to destroy as much life and as much of the earth as that Great Flood had done. He pointed out the rainbow in the sky (symbolic of Jesus) would be the covenant between Good and all living creatures on earth, indicating that a flood would never destroy life on earth again. “Facts on Noah’s Ark.” Facts on Noah’s Ark and the Flood.
