The Environmental and Society Advantages and Disadvantages of Shipping Oil Oversea. An advantage to shipping oil overseas is that the city that is sending the oil will make money. By: Meghan Maguire and Avery Bota 8ST Environmental Disadvantages of Shipping Oil Overseas The environment suffers because when an oil spill occurs, animal's health and habitat are affected very negatively. The gas from the tankers can also take a large toll on animals in the water and the cleanliness of the water. The advantage of using tankers are that they can ship more at one time, as they are very large and have many compartments and less trips are needed. $$$ A disadvantage to tankers is that the costs of building the tanker, and canal and exports are both very expensive for the country producing the oil and that is shipping it. Oil tankers can explode while shipping overseas, and lots of oil will be lost, and gone to waste. This also costs lots of money to replace the tanker that had been destroyed. Using tankers, countries without oil can recieve oil from other places that produce oil. The advantage for shipping oil is that when you use a boat to ship oil instead of planes it is better for the environment because with tanker less trips are needed and less gas is used. Therefor, the carbon foot print would be smaller. An advantage is that shipping oil to other countries will increase the relationship the countires have. The End! Hope you enjoyed! By: Meghan Maguire and Avery Bota 8ST Another society disadvantage is that the city that is a shipping oil port will become very busy and hechtic. Affecting the people who live there.
