Jordan Larson
26 year old Jordan Larson is coached by Hugh McCutcheon. Jordan has played as an outside hitter since December 2011 and has won one silver medal. She plays as number 10 and she went to the University of Nebraska for college. She is also married to Luke Burbach.
Volleyball was invented by William Morgan.
A specific ball was designed for the sport.

Lift- A violation in which the ball is pushed in such a way that it stops its motion during a forearm pass or a set Line The boundaries of the court including the sidelines and end lines.
Pancake-A one-handed defensive technique where the hand is extended and the palm is slid along the floor as the player dives or extension rolls, and timed so that the ball bounces off the back of the hand.
Pepper-A warm up game with two players facing each other. Player one tosses the ball to player two, player two underhand passes the ball back to player one. Player one sets the ball to player two, player two hits the ball to player one, Player one digs the ball to player two and the rally continues until one of the players makes a mistake.
Shag-When the players round up the balls strewn around the gym during practice or warmup
Side out- When the other team gets a point.
Kill-An attack that results in an immediate point or side out.
Matthew Anderson
25 year old Destinee Hooker also plays outside hitter as number 19 and coached by Hugh McCutcheon since December 2011. She was named Express-News Sportswoman of the Year in 2005, 2009, and 2011, becoming the only athlete, male or female, to be a three-time winner since the award was initiated in 1985. Also won one silver medal last year. Some of her nicknames are Avi, Avitar, Go Go Gadget, Dee, D-Money, and D-Cash. She writes on her finger tape before every match. "Each hand says something different but most importantly my family, boyfriend [Steven] and of course God are all involved."
Clayton Stanley
34 year old Clayton Stanley has been coached by Alan Knipe since 2009. Clayton plays as an opposite hitter and plays as number 13. He studied Language Studies - Spanish at the University of Hawaii. Some of his nicknames are "Bird" and "Steam". His dad Jon and step-grandfather Tom both played on the 1968 Men's Olympic Volleyball Team. His dad is a member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame. His mother Sandra played in the IVA for the Denver Comets. His step-father Marc was a volleyball all-American at San Diego State.
Nicole Davis
30 year old Nicole Davis plays as libero, number 6. She has been coached by Hugh McCutcheon since 2011. Nicole studied Political Science at the University of Southern California. One of her nicknames is coley, she has a black belt in karate and she also likes to read and shop.

Destinee Hooker
25 year old Matthew Anderson plays as a spiker, since September 2011 and is coached by Alan Knipe since May 2012. He plays as number 1. He was named Best Spiker at the NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament in 2012. At the same tournament he was his team's leading scorer in 2011 and 2012. "My workouts are a series of loading and unloading exercises such as front and back squats with lounges, box jumps among other exercises to help build strength for landing. For upper body strength I do a lot of shoulder exercises, internal and external rotations with bands and exercises for flexibility that can help with the volume of swings I get in training and matches."

In the Philippines, an offensive style of passing the ball in a high trajectory to be struck by another player (the set and spike) were introduced.
The game was changed from 21 to 15 points
Three hits per side and back row attack rules were instituted.
The first YMCA national championships were held in Brooklyn, NY. 27 teams from 11 states were represented.
The United States Volleyball Association (USVBA, now USA Volleyball) was formed. The first U.S. Open was staged, as the field was open to non-YMCA squads.

The basic skill is called the "pass" when receiving the serve, and the "dig" when handling an opponent's attack.
Setting is one of the most difficult skills to teach and takes a lot of practice to master. Unlike many of the skills in volleyball, setting requires a super soft touch.
Volleyball hitting ideally takes place on a team's third contact of the volleyball. The hit (or spike) comes after the pass and the set and is also known as an attack or a spike. Hitting is the most exciting skill in the sport of volleyball not only for the player who does it well, but also for the onlookers watching.
The first World Championships were held in Prague, Czechoslovakia.
Volleyball was introduced to the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) was formed.
The World Championships in Mexico were telecast throughout Japan.
The US National Women's team began a year-round training regime in Pasadena, Texas (moved to Colorado Springs in 1979, Coto de Caza and Fountain Valley, CA in 1980, and San Diego, CA in 1985).
The US National Men's team begins a year-round training regime in Dayton, Ohio (moved to San Diego, CA in 1981). Volleyball Publications (A precursor of Volleyball OneR) is established by Val Keller in Huntington Beach, CA.
Dig-Passing a spiked or rapidly hit ball. Slang for the art of passing an attacked ball close to the floor.
Libero-A defensive specialist position added to the game in 2001. This player wears a different shirt than his/her teammates and plays only in the back row.

5-1 rotation- A 6-player offensive system that uses five hitters and one setter.
4-2 rotation- A 6-player offensive system using four hitters and two setters.
Ace- A serve that is not passable and results immediately in a point.

28 year old Courtney Thompson is coached by Hugh McCutcheon and plays as number 17 and plays as a setter. She likes hiking, board games, reading and playing the guitar. She also studied Business Administration at University of Washington, United States
David Smith
27 year old David Smith is coached by Allen Knipe and plays as number 20, he plays middle blocker. He is married to his wife Kelli. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of California. His hobbies are, listening to music golfing and watching basketball.
