Wheat - nicknamed Breadbasket Colonies. They sent
wheat to other colonies

Pennsylvania: This land was given to William Penn by the
King because of a debt owed to his father. Pennsylvania means
Penn's Woods because of the many woods and trees. Started
as a Quaker colony. Pennsylvania believed in true religious freedom and allowed people from all religions to settle there.
The Pennsylvania Dutch also settled here.
New York : The Dutch claimed this territory first because of Henry Hudson.
Peter Stuyvesant was put in charge of the colony but was a very harsh and
cruel leader. When the English sent ships to take over the colony, none of
Dutch colonist would help Stuyvesant defend the colony. The Duke of
York took over the colony and renamed it New York.
New Jersey: This colony was separated from New York and the land was given to
Lord Berkeley and George Carteret. The colony fought over its boundary lines
and many disputes occured. The Queen of England united the colony. Many farmers
came to New Jersey.
Delaware: The colony got its name from Lord De La Warr. Farmers from Sweden were
the first group to settle this area.

that vote and create laws that everyone follows.
