Democracy is....
It is a form of government. The form of government we have in Ireland.
Democracy means 'rule by the people'.
government of the people, by the people, for the people.'
The Constitution: Bunreacht Na hEireann
The constitution describes how our democracy works. It defines our system of government and states what rights we have as citizens.
The Irish Constitution called Bunreacht na hEireann was
accepted by the Irish people
in 1937.
What is in it?

Each section of the constitution is made up of ARTICLES. Each article set out an important point or rule.
Have a look at page 130-131
Red pen please, title date, pg number.
Read and answer 'Practice Questions' page 132.
The constitution can be changed by a special a special type of election known as a referendum.
