Transcript of Ellipsis, comma, hyphen, colon, semi-colon, and brackets!

Ellipsis
An Ellipsis (...) is a piece of puncuation which can be used to indicate a pause or a gap in a piece of text.
Example of a quote with an ellipsis
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Martin Luther King Jr.
Using an ellipsis to indicate a pause or trailing off
You can insert an ellipsis between two words where you want the pause to occur
Some examples
"Hello. Hello? Anne are you there?"
Comma
Ideas that are in their own units but cannot be in their own complete sentence
Using an ellipsis to abbreviate a quote
Choose the section of the quote you wish to remove
Ellipsis, comma, hyphen, colon, semicolon, and Parentheses!
It is used to indicate that a quote has been abbreviated
To indicate a pause or trailing off, generally in speech
In the place of the removed section, write an ellipsis
If the removed section leaves the quote grammatically incorrect, then place brackets after the ellipsis
"I have a dream that my four little children...will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Martin Luther King Jr.
Or after the last word to trail off at the end of a sentence
If the ellipsis occurs at the end of a sentence that should have a question mark or exclamation mark, place it after the ellipsis
"Hello ... Hello ...? ... Anne ... are you there?
"Hey Alex. I I have bad news."
"Hey Alex ... I ... I have bad news."
You can place a comma into a sentence to make it more fluent
