There are two types of social security SSI ssd (social SECURITY INCOME) (Social security disability} as of 2010, when retirees reach age 62 they can collect limited income from social security. Workers pay Social Security taxes on the income they make. As of 2010, employees paid 6.2 percent of their wages into Social Security tax, and their employers matched that amount. Self-employed workers paid the full 12.4 percent of the tax owed to Social Security program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources.
