Minute men (militia):The Minutemen were made up of farmers, masons, everyday men who wanted to stand up to England and save their families, and towns. They were the first group of fighters for the colonists, and received very little training before they faced off against the British at Lexington and Concord. The minutemen had to be ready as soon as they heard the news of a battle, hence their name.
