How can I prove this is working?
My students are
teaching
(which is the ultimate bullseye) each other
When it's time to go, they are asking to stay (
and I am a resource room
)
They are understanding what they are learning and finally the
WHY
of what they are learning

This is where to teach the vocabulary, expectations, and brainstorming takes place
Look at the standard together
How can we add technology
What tweaks do we make to meet individual needs
They are taking responsibility
This has taken some time for them to be able to get up and get a pencil, etc so they are not STOPPING their own learning
Students have their own ideas
Students are coming up with tweaks and adaptations to their learning that I had not thought of

Student Choices
Students are coming in on their own and creating their own projects
This has taken adjustment for me, but instead of it creating classroom management challenges the classroom behaviors have estinguished
One student stated," Wow, everyone
is behaving so much better."
They are learning speaking, self-management and self-advocacy skills as well as team building skills
Team building was difficult and I felt discouraged at first until I started asking questions
What can you do

Who is bugging you
With students that were not engaged
I asked them what they wanted to study and then I had the hook
They often did more than asked
What better way of solidifying their learning
Parents are noticing the changes
We are getting phone calls from parents asking what we are doing

Complete student Engagement
Students now see no value in misbehavior as then they can't participate
Feels like I am teaching in a new classroom
Focus has really changed from it being "a special education room" where THOSE kids go
General Education Teachers are noticing the Difference
teachers are seeing more work and less excuses in the classroom
