These planets are all like earth and have water on them which is essential to host life.
Astronomers have found five planets that all could host life
(US Planetary Habitability Laboratory)
Will we search for other planets to inhabit when Earth is no longer sustainable?
What 'Eco-Friendly' techniques will be implemented into our future cities and buildings?
Many different technologies will be created and invented for the sustainability of the planet. Many creations ranging from solar panels on curtains to the skin of buildings being alive and adapting to the climate. Many of the green techniques used today are always being approved and soon every building will be built to be self sustaining and have ever growing and advanced eco-friendly creations.
What is the future of Architecture and Technology?
What 'Eco-Friendly' techniques will be implemented into are future cities and buildings?
Where will we live and grow our produce when all of the available land gets used up?
How will urbanization affect the future of architecture?
What new smart features will be offered to housing¿
What new techniques are being looked into today for the future?
Habitat 2020 :
- Habitat 2020 is an alive and adaptable building.
- It's skin is alive and functions like a living organism.
- Habitat 2020 is a 'Phillips Design Probe' and they plan to take part in its construction.
(Mahesh Basantani, Inhabitat.com, 07/09/08)
What kinds of eco-buildings will be built in the future and what technology will be implemented on them?
- Many different types of buildings will be built, the technology on the buildings will vary depending on what is needed of the building.
- A new green transit bay has been approved to be built in San Francisco.
A quote stated by Mayor Gavin Newsome about the project. “Through this forward thinking project, we can inspire change to an environmentally sustainable model of living while also enhancing economic growth in our City, region and State.”
(transbaycenter, Apr 28, 2010)
What techniques are being used today and how can we improve on them¿
- Solar Harvesting textiles are the new and improved solar panels.
- Solar Harvesting textiles are thin-film sheets which absorb sunlight and convert it into energy.
- Sheila Kennedy is an expert in the integration of solar cell technology, she had thought of the idea and had made many prototypes of the invention.
(Jorge Chapa, Sheila Kennedy, 06/12/08)
Do we have any plans to move off the land to preserve it?
How are we going to produce natural foods and greenery when we have used up the farming land¿
Buildings will be built just for farming
These building will be specially designed to be perfect for growing crops
This has been planned due to the realization of the population growth and the need for more crops
(Vincent Callebaut Architects)
The future of architecture is that buildings will be capable of producing foods and animal life. They will be self sustainable and able to produce very low amount of pollution. Their are other planets that may be possible to inhabit if Earth is no longer sustainable and we need to move but this technology is not yet available.
How will urbanisation affect house/property prices?
Many former warehouses have been transformed into luxury flats.
(Learn on the Internet © 2008)
Low cost housing has also been built
House Price rising/lowering
Why will this happen?
People are looking for energy efficient housing
Realestate.com median price
(Associated Press. February 26, 2008)
How does current housing accommodate for the poor?
Public Housing types
This has influenced our design
Who provides the housing?
2006 census results
Victorian government has started redeveloping its inner-city estates
(Anil Pharande 2013)
Urbanisation will affect the future of architecture by providing many high rise apartments and the renovation of former warehouses into luxury flats. Architecture will change dramatically if the United Nations prediction of 85% of people in the world living in an urban area is correct. There will be little developing in the suburbs. The skyline will be filled with high rise buildings as the cities struggle to accommodate such an amount of people. Buildings will have a lot of energy efficient measures set up.
What new features will be in place¿
Plans to build entire cities on water that can self sustain themselves
These cities will work because their design makes them sustainable with lots of ways to create energy cleanly
Scientist and architects have planned this city due to the rising water levels thus the land flooding
(Vincent Callebaut Architects)
We are currently in transition
Everything will be connected via wifi
You will be able to control everything with your phone
LG are currently working on a range of appliances that can be controlled with an app
It was honored with the 2013 CES innovation award
(LG Press Release 2013)
By Darren Bush
Pathway of Enquiry
What smart features are already in place¿
Smart meters let us monitor gas and electricity
We have technology such as smart T.Vs
We use technology such as water tanks and solar panels to cut back on costs and energy
Solar panels save energy by using the Sun's energy
Smart meters are being rolled out across Victoria
There are tax rebates on Solar panels to encourage buying them (S.Baranowski 2013)
Urbanisation is the physical growth of urban areas
United Nations Prediction
This has influenced the design of our building
Why Does urbanisation occur?
Why Do people move to the city?
Worldwatch has made a similar prediction to the united nations

How will we benefit from this technology
In the future our homes have a lot of new technology. There will be technology that is designed to sustain the environment such as solar panels and water tanks. To further help the environment and save our money they will make more advanced systems that are similar to the smart meters we have now that will allow us to monitor our energy use very closely. The other technology that we will have in our homes mostly adds on to what we have now. This includes a new wave of "smart products" that are all connected via wifi and can be controlled with a phone. This affects architecture because it means houses in the future will have to be designed in a way so the larger technology can be incorporated.
Has about 35% of the intensity of the heat on Mars
5.6 times the sise of Earth
2.3 light-years away
Indeed, says Dr Udry, the planet "could even be covered by a large and deep ocean".
Earth like twin
2.2 times the size of Earth
20.3 light-years away
Most promising planet to host life to date
Just over twice the size of earth and orbits closer to its sun but still absorbs the same amount of heat from its sun as earth does from our sun
3.6 times the size of Earth
35 light-years away
Quite muggy and humid due to its cloud cover and its distance to the sun. Lisa Kaltenegger, from the Max Planck Institute in Germany, said at the time of its discovery

40 times larger than earth
620 light-years away
Orbit of 290 days around a Sun-like star resembles that of our own planet
Size suggests a composition closer to the gaseous Neptune than to Earth
Exoplanet hunter Geoff Marcy, from the University of California, Berkeley, told the AP news agency that he would "bet my telescope that there is no hard, rocky surface to walk on"
4.5 times the size of Earth
22 light-years away
28 days to orbit its star
Absorbs about as much energy from its sun as earth which means temperatures could be quite similar to earth
Co-discoverer Guillem Anglada-Escude has said of 667Cc: "This planet is the new best candidate to support liquid water and, perhaps, life as we know it."
What is Urbanisation?
It adds a new level convenience
Energy saving features will help save the environment
It will help the environment by finding new ways to make energy
Technology such as T.Vs will be more energy efficient
Group conclusion: What is the Future of Architecture and Technology?
We believe that in the future, architecture would be very advanced and almost homes, and building would be self sustainable using advanced green eco techniques. The interior of the homes and buildings would be advanced to a point where all appliances and electronics installed in the building could be controlled using one device over a wireless connection. We also believe that in the case of the planet running out of space and liveable area, there may be options to build new cities and homes in uninhabitable places such as the ocean and other planets. Urbanisation will play a big role in the designing of buildings, as we have to think how we will accommodate all the people living in urban areas. Now, we present our model.
