Rise To Fame
The band was formed in 1985 Australia by two men: Peter Furler and his school mate George Perdikis. Two other teens were added soon after: Furler's best friend, John James, and bassist Sean Taylor. The band's original name was The News, but once in the U.S. they changed it to The Newsboys to avoid conflict with the U.S.-based band Huey Lewis and the News. The band came to the United States in late 1987 after getting signed with Refuge Communications and released the album Read All About It in 1988 in the United States
Highlights and Starlight
After signing with Star Song Communications, they released two more albums in 1990 and 1991: Hell Is for Wimps and Boys Will Be Boyz. None of the band's first three albums got much attention. In 2000, Newsboys headlined the annual, travelling CCM concert, Festival Con Dios, with Audio Adrenaline and The O.C. Supertones.
Lowlights and Moonlight
In late 1997, James announced he would be leaving the band, in order to start a preaching ministry. In 2007, he revealed the actual reason was due to a drug and alcohol addiction. With his departure, Furler moved from drums to vocals and auditions were held for the now-vacant drum position. Eventually, Duncan Phillips, who had previously played keyboards and percussion for the band moved over to the drum kit.
Michael DeWayne Tait was born May 18, 1966
He met Toby McKeehan and Kevin Max while attending Liberty University in the late 1980s, and formed four-time Grammy winning band DC Talk,
He joined the Newsboys in 2009 when Peter Furler decided to leave the band.
The Newsboys is a christian pop rock band that was originally founded in 1985 in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia. It currently has four band members:
Michael Tait - Lead Vocalist
Jody Davis - Guitarist
Jeff Frankenstein - Keyboard
Duncan Phillips - Drummer
Jody Davis was born September 6, 1967. He joined the band in 1992 and left the band in 2003, (being replaced by Bryan Olesen), to care for his sick daughter. He rejoined the band in 2009, replacing Paul Colman. Before joining Newsboys, he played in the bands Phos and Lively Stones. He also released a solo album in 2001 on Pamplin Records.
Jeffery Ryan Frankenstein was born June 26, 1974 in Detroit, Michigan. Jeff joined the band in 1996 in their album Take Me To Your Leader. He thinks he is a terrible singer. He was adopted and he is the youngest member of the Newsboys.
Duncan Aurthor Phillips was born March 3, 1934 in Nambour, Queensland, Australia. He started out in the band as the keyboarder in 1993, then as the percussionist in 1994 and switched to drums in 1997.
I choose the Newsboys because they inspire me to strengthen my relationship with God and seek him through music.
