A synthetic analgesic drug that is similar to morphine in its effects but longer acting, used as a substitute drug in the treatment of morphine and heroin addiction.
One physical consequence of methadone is sexual dysfunction.

Treatment For Methadone
You can use a drug called buprenorphine to treat a methadone
drug addiction. Buprenorphine can help prevent withdrawal symptoms and other characteristics of detoxing off methadone without causing a similar replacement addiction. The FDA approved it in 2002 for treatment of opioid addiction including heroin, oxycodone, methadone, and others. This effective treatment takes 90 days but more days are recommended. Buprenorphine cost depends on the dosage but it ranges from $4-$19
