Transcript of Simile vs. Metaphor

Simile vs. Metaphor What is a simile? What is a Metaphor? A simile is a comparison using "like" or "as." A metaphor is a comparison not using "like" or "as." We use similes and metaphors all the time. See if you can pick out the simile or metaphor from these popular songs. What were some of the similes? "You're like a shot of pure gold" "Tension like a cloud of smoke in the air" "Pull me like a bass drum" "Take me down like I'm a domino" What is the metaphor in this song? "You were Romeo" What are they comparing in this video? "Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting in the wind...?" "Do you ever feel..like a house of cards...?" "Cause baby you're a firework." What metaphors are used in this song? "You are the thunder" "I am the lightning" What about in these videos? "You spin me right round...like a record." "You change your mind like a girl changes clothes." Circle the objects being compared. "My hearts a stereo." "Make me your radio." "You with your words like knives and swords and weapons that your use against me." "...got me feeling like nothing." "You with your voice like nails on a chalkboard" "How could you be so cold as the winter wind when it breathes yo?" "I'm feeling so fly like a G6" By: Tamera Hart
