Language Arts 9
Period 1
Abigail Kim, Kennedy Ligon,
Harmony Palaganas, Jessica Plummer The Sounds of
Romeo & Juliet Act 1 Scene 5 "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift was chosen because the lyrics showed how Romeo and Juliet felt when they first laid eyes on each other at the Capulet party. Act 1 Scene 1 "All Alone" by Gorillaz was chosen because the lyrics relate to how Romeo feels from being rejected by Rosaline. He felt despair as if he would never love again. Although this song sounds a bit fun, we thought it would fit because of how overly-dramatic Romeo was being. Act 5 Scene 3 "Bleeding Out" by Imagine Dragons was chosen for the scene where Romeo kills himself because he believes Juliet is dead, and Juliet awakens to find him, and kills herself. This song can relate to this scene because the lyrics are about how they would die for the person they love. Act 4 Scene 3 "One and Only" by Adele was chosen for the scene where Juliet hesitates to take the poison that will fake her death. This song relates to how she would do anything for her love. Theme Song Sweet Disposition by The Temper Trap was chosen as the theme song for Romeo and Juliet because the lyrics are about young and reckless love. Act 2 Scene 1 "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" by Frankie Valli (covered by Jae Park) was chosen for the balcony scene where Romeo is waiting outside of Juliet's room, talking to himself about how beautiful she is. This song relates to how Romeo was almost "entranced" by Juliet's beauty. Act 2 Scene 2 & Scene 6 "Truly Madly Deeply" by Savage Garden was chosen because the lyrics were similar to the marriage vows that Romeo and Juliet made to each other. They had both promised to always be together, lovingly. Act 3 Scene 1 Guns Out by Young the Giant was chosen because the lyrics could describe the fight scene between Mercutio and Tybalt, then Romeo and Tybalt. This song was more slow and while listening to it, we imagined a slow-motion scene of men running towards each other and starting fights for unreasonable things. Act 3 Scene 5 "Stay" by Rihanna was chosen for the scene where it's the last time that Romeo and Juliet are together, after Romeo was banished, but neither wants to leave the other. Act 5 Scene 5 "Blank Page" by Christina Aguilera was chosen for the scene where the Montagues and Capulets make peace because the lyrics are about apologizing for mistakes and trying to the mistakes behind them.
