Transcript of 5 Ways Hitler Violated the Treaty of Versailles

Stopped Paying Reparations
The Treaty of Versailles said Germany had to pay 6.6 billion pounds over 66 years to help pay for damages caused by the war.
Hitler stopped paying the reparations and put the money back into the German economy.
Again, no one did anything in order to keep peace.
Rebuilt Germany's Army
In 1935, Hitler restarted the conscription process in Germany and built up Germany's air force and navy.
Even though these things were in direct violation of the Treat of Versailles, no one acted against Hitler because they were trying to practice policies of appeasement.
Re-Militarized Rhineland
In 1936, Hitler marched 22,000 troops into the Rhineland.
Although this was also in violation of the treaty, no one reacted to Hitler's actions.
Made Alliance With Austria
Going against the Treaty of Versailles, Germany made an alliance with Austria and created a larger nation.
Although this led to retaliation, no one did anything at the moment of the alliance being made.
Invaded Poland
In the Treaty of Versailles, it was stated that Germany should not invade another country.
In the fall of 1939, Hitler invaded Poland.
No one reacted to any of the things mentioned in these slides. It wasn't until Hitler signed a treaty with the Soviet Union a little after the annexation of Poland when the British and French declared war.
