Early Life
born April 4, 1965
raised in New York
son of an underground filmmaker and actress
introduced to marijuana at the age of 6 by his father
parents divorced when he was only 13 years old
dropped out of school by the age of 16 to act
Later Life
Heroin addiction started again after his role in the movie
Chaplin
went through 5 years of failed rehab and arrests
continued to work despite his problems
"...[he] has come to symbolize the addictive personality itself: charming, wily, and self-destructive" (Ana Figueroa and Julia Scelfo).
Accomplishments
Academy Award nomination for his role in
Chaplin-
peak of his career
Won 2 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globe Awards
Considered one of Hollywood's A-list actors
Mistakes/Flaws
got addicted to drugs at a very young age
in the 1990s he was arrested on drug-related charges
he ran away from the rehab program
later arrested again for entering a neighbor's home and falling asleep on one of their beds, high
sentenced to 180 days in jail
he then seemed to be over his addiction, but reverted back to his old habits and was later arrested again

knew he had a problem- took 2 years off acting to focus on his rehabilitation
He lost several roles in films due to his problems, but continued helping himself
once he was better- started his career rolling again
