2. In teams, each member is assigned a letter A-E.
3. To begin the discussion, the teacher will call one letter. All of the students assigned that letter will go into the inside (center) circle.
4. Once in the center, the discussion begins.

Using the Points Sheet
-Discuss the topic(s)/text(s) by following the rules of collegial discussion.
-Use discussion skills learned throughout year (making connections, citing text evidence, using content-specific vocabulary, asking follow-up questions, etc.) and social skills (inviting quiet participants into the discussion, making eye contact, etc.)
-Jot down any questions/comments you have to jog your memory later!
-Use the discussion questions and “words to use” as a reference
Take notes on what your teammate says in your notebook.
Record the points your teammate collects on the points sheet.
Write questions, comments, or suggestions on post-its to pass into your teammate. He/she may choose to use these to help him/her gain points!
-Respond to another student/prompt and move the discussion forward
-Ask a follow-up question
-Use one piece of text evidence to support an idea
-Respond using accountable talk
-Invite a quiet participant into a discussion
Student 1: Would you eat lab grown meat? Who or why not?
Student 2: I wouldn’t eat lab grown meat. It sounds kind of gross!
Student 3: I agree with student 2, I wouldn’t eat it either. While I understand that this is supposed to help the environment, there haven’t been enough studies done to make me feel comfortable eating it.
Student 4: I actually think I would try it. According to the article, “Meat Without the Moo,” lab grown meat is created from stem cells, so it is kind of like real meat – it just doesn’t have the environmental impact that factory farm meat has.

-Although they were greatly outnumbered by the Germans, how did the Warsaw Jews maximize their resources as resistance fighters?
-Resistance often has unintended consequences and comes with large risks. What risks and unintended consequences does resistance come with?
-Do you think the possible benefits of resistance are worth the risks and unintended consequences? Why or why not?
-Was the Warsaw ghetto uprising successful? Meaning, was it worth it? Why or why not?
-What are the students on the INSIDE doing & saying?
-What are the students on the OUTSIDE doing and saying?
-How are the students working together? What impact does that have on the students?
