What is Infrared Photography?
Infrared Photography, or otherwise referred to as IR Photography, is a light sensitive film/image sensor that captures pictures in an Infrared or Ultraviolet lighting. This type of photography is capable of enabling all photographers, whether professional or amateur, to journey through the world of the unseen.

The World of the Unseen
Relevance to the Light Spectrum
Concerning the Light Spectrum, the equipment used in Infrared Photography is immensely hypersensitive. Therefore, Infrared Photography manipulates the Infrared light spectrum (IR) to display a divergent point of view for photography.
Just beyond the human sight, the Infrared Spectrum's wavelength ranges between 700-1200 nanometers.
Using the ranges in its required spectrum, Infrared Photography detects this infrared light, and produces and image in which humans or regular film is unable to see.

What Technology does IR Photography Require & What does it do?
Textures, colours, plants, leaves, and human skin, as well as other manners of objects are able to reflect IR light in a unique and interesting way, which is captured by IR Photography.
Infrared Photography requires the usage of films or sensors, which have infrared light sensitivity. As wavelengths are longer in Infrared photographs than in visible, it has a different penetration capability for special effects, with a variety of materials.
The usage of a light source that radiates well into the IR Spectrum is required for IR Photography.
With the usage of infrared lighting in photographs, a photographer can bring out special effects (for example, false colours, in a simple portrait.
Divergent filters and Infrared Lens (Converging Lens) can be used with regular DSLR cameras(Digital) and Film cameras to produce results
Filters can also used with camera to block a minimal amount or all of the visible light to change the resultant image.
In an Infrared Photography Camera, there are infrared detectors. They manipulate infrared energy to Electrical signals, which then creates visible light.
Infrared Photography is used in an abundant amount of career opportunities, ranging from Medicinal to Astronomy to Law Enforcement. Here are some examples of relevant occupations for IR Photography:
Medicinal Department: Assists with the diagnostic of medical problems and diseases. Detects tumors around the body, as well as displays the inner sections of the Human Anatomy.
Forensics: Provides assistance with the solution to specific crimes, as well as detects justifiable evidence and unknown evidence.
Military Weapon Position and Terrorists Tracking: Black and white Infrared Photography is used for Target Acquisition and weapon detection.
Law Enforcements: For the legal department, Black & White IR Photography is used for Surveillance cameras, as well as produces a clear image in the darkness to detect any disruption or occurrence

Infrared Photography has revolutionized throughout the course of history, altering the way people interpret photographic art. It's style has inspired the abstract images that is commonly seen today.
The Pioneer Era - 1800s
British astronomer Sir William Herschel initially discovered the phenomenon of infrared light. In 1800, he discovered unseen waves of light by calculating the temperature they produced.
20th Century - 1910
Infrared images initially appeared in 1910 in two divergent publications. In February 1910, The Century Magazine published infrared photos. In October 1910, photographs by Robert W. Wood were publicized in the Royal Photographic Society Journal. These images conveyed several techniques that Wood has composed related to this type of photography.
World War 1 - Preeminent Time in IR Photography History
During the first World War, Infrared Photography played a significant role. Referred to as the "War to End All Wars", the United States used infrared technology in aerial photography. Although all IR film was Black & White, it assisted tremendously with the advancements in the penetration of haze, which often hid opposing forces.
Seeing the Stars & Planets - 1930s -1942
About a decade after World War 1 occurred, during the Great Depression, infrared photography began being used for a wide variety of applications, including astronomy. In 1942, the Eastman Kodak Company introduced Ektachrome Aero Film. This evolution introduced the first colour infrared film. The film assisted with the study of the Universe.
The Psychedelic Era - 1960s
In the 1960s, when designing their album covers, several rock artists used infrared photos. The oddity and contrasting images created an era of Infrared Photography popularity amongst teenagers, composing the beginning of an inspiring photography method.
Infrared Photography is extremely preeminent to the Biological Industry in Science. It has provided assistance to making an abundant amount of breakthroughs in biologic history, as well as assists with the discovery of several ecological factors.
Medicinal Screening and Medications:
IR Photography is used to discover tumors in different parts of the body, as well as is used to detect viruses within the human anatomy.
Botany:
IR Photography is used to detect whether a plant is under pressure in its environment or stressed,.
Infrared images must be produced into a Real Infrared Picture. This changes the colour, texture, and outline of the image, as well as refraction.

Therefore, Infrared Photography has significantly evolved over the last 100 years, and has developed into a field that assists other to explore the World of the Unseen.
