WONDER by R.J. Palacio
Dear Mr. Husfelt,
Take a break! You deserve it.
Don't go too far though because we need your undivided attention for a few minutes. We, Ms. Rose and the 5th Grade Rockstars, just finished reading a phenomenal book in our class. We were hoping we could persuade you to also read this book. The Rockstars have integrated a few technology pieces into a presentation to pique your interest. We hope you enjoy what we have created. Please watch the Wonder video trailer from R.J. Palacio's website to see how Ms. Rose hooked us for this read aloud.
Read to find out what
we think about Wonder...
My class just finished reading the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is a book about a boy named August who has an extremely rare facial disease.
The book Wonder is very emotional. Most of the book was happy, but some parts made me mad and some parts made me sad. I even cried once, but it was happy in the end. I think that this book was very emotional for me because there really ARE people like this!
In the story, a boy named August has this disease and he has been homeschooled his whole life, then when he goes into fifth grade he starts regular school.
I think that everyone would like this book because it is based on a true story and it has a terrific story line! So, if you are looking for a good book read Wonder!

Life is full of wonders and August Pullman is one of them. August was born with birth defect. He gets called things like monster and zombie kid. His life seems like it would be horrific. August has just a few friends that are true and amazing. He has a brave family that would do anything for him and his happiness. What a Wonder this book is. I think no matter what age this book is phenomenal and you have to read it. You can see life from many different perspectives and the truth” when given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind”.
By R.J. Palacio.

Mr. Husfelt, I think you should read the book Wonder because it fills you with a lot of emotions. For instance, when we read Wonder we felt really, really heartbroken for the main character August. August is the boy in the story who goes through a long year in middle school. He gets picked on by a kid named Julian.
Another reason why you should read Wonder is because of how exciting it was to hear what happened to August during the school year. It was very interesting. This was an amazing book and I recommend you read it. This book is full of action, and is very awesome. At the end, you will definetely take August’s side. I really do hope you read this book Mr.Husfelt.
Sincerely,
Courtney

As I lay on the carpet crying, I am thinking about the wonderful book Wonder and how badly they treat Auggie. August is a ten year old boy that was born deformed. He gets bullied everyday and has a really protective family. His sister doesn’t see him as deformed, she sees him as a smart, handsome, and nice ten year old. This book is really inspiring . It will change your life and perspective about other people. It changed my life and it will change yours. I recommend this book for anyone that’s up for a good novel.

Wonder was such an enjoyable book! It was about a ten year old boy named August who has a deformed face since he was born. He has an older sister who doesn’t judge him by the way he looks. August’s family tries to protect him from other people who judge him. This book will mix your emotions and as soon as you know it, you are sitting in the corner of the room…crying! August is bullied by so many people, he gets used to it. Though, along the way he finds two good friends that like him just the way he is. I hope you will read this book and enjoy it just as much as I did.

As our teacher read us the book Wonder, I sat on the carpet crying. Wonder is the kind of book that makes you go through all these rare emotions that you never really experience. While we were reading the book I went home and told my Mom that the book was a Wonder. Literally, the book’s name was Wonder. Wonder is my favorite book EVER and that’s coming from a girl who read the Harry Potter series. From August, ( a Face deformed boy) going to school where he is trying to tell everyone that he is not different than everyone else, to August finding out his true friends are when August and the rest of fifth grade go on a two night field trip to a nature reserve where August finds himself in the woods with a bunch of seventh grade bullies, that’s when his friends come in and stand up for August. There’s also the sad moment in the book when August’s dog “Daisy” dies. This book is close to me because there’s a part in the book where Olivia (August’s sister) had to go to her Grandma’s while August was in surgery. When Olivia’s grandmother says she loves Olivia, Olivia then asks if she also loved August. Her grandma says, “Yes, but she loves Olivia more because a lot of people hover over August”. This part is close to me because I have a step brother who gets a lot of attention. This part comforts me and makes me feel like I’m not alone.

Wonder is the best book ever! It has so many ups and downs. One minute everything is perfect, then BAM; they are all upset and turning backs. It also has mixed emotions like sad, happy, afraid, scared, and teary. August is the main character and he has a disease that makes his face look like he was in a fire. He had never gone to a normal school, he was always homeschooled because of his face. His mom finally said “You are going to school for fifth grade, I cant keep homeschooling you”. When he goes to school for the first day, everybody stares at him and talks quietly. The principal, Mr.Tushmen, tells Julian, Jack and Charlotte to talk to August. Julian was only being nice because Mr.Tushmen told him to. Then Julian starts turning everybody's back on Jack and August. Mr. Husfelt, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

Dear Mr. Husfelt,
Wonder is the best book in the world. I think that you should read it because it has so many emotions and the emotions make it exciting. I also think you should read it because in the end, August, the main character gets an award. August has a disease that makes his face look like he has a disorder. It’s really sad, but happy at the same time. This book had a humongous impact on me because if there is someone who is always sad and gets picked on all the time like August, I go and talk to them. I always try to make them feel better.

Wonder is amazing and it has lots of features that make this book one of the best.
Wonder is about a kid named August who has facial deformity and when he goes from home-school to public school he has a little trouble making new friends. In this book it shows August’s journey from being the kid everyone runs away from, to one of the most popular kids.

“When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.”That is the main quote of the book Wonder. Wonder is a great book. It is very emotional at times. You can feel angry, sad , happy, and sometimes a little laugh-out-loud funny!
Mr. Husfelt, my classmates and I would like you to read Wonder because it would be so nice if you did! This book is the perfect book to read! Thank you, Mr. Husfelt!

As I was laying down on the carpet crying my eyes out, Ms. Rose was reading Wonder to our class. Wonder is a book about a boy named August. He was a normal boy but he had many genes that mixed up his face. He was homeschooled until 5th grade. He was bullied at the start. I think you should read Wonder because there are ups and downs like life. There are so much emotions; first you’re happy then you’re crying. Wonder is a phenomenal book.

The book Wonder is very, very emotional for some people. It is emotional because there are so many parts in the book that fill you with anger, sadness, happiness, excitement, and sometimes you felt discomfort. I had a personal experience with a deformed kid before. I was out surfing one weekend and he came out and sat on his board right next to me. He was probably six or seven years old. There was a big set coming in, so I paddled to where they were coming in and caught the second wave that was in the set, but I didn’t know that the deformed kid was on the wave I had just caught, so I jumped off to see how good he was at surfing; he was pretty good. I paddled to the beach because I had been surfing for a couple of hours. When I got to the beach I told my mom all about my experience. That was one of my personal experiences somewhat like the book Wonder.

We can all be a little bit rude sometimes, or even a little mean. This book “Wonder” makes you realize what the person being treated unfairly feels like. I don’t want to give the story away, but August Pullman’s life is people tormenting him. Imagine if you were August wouldn’t you feel terrible! Even kids like August shouldn’t be treated unfairly. In Wonder, August might be bullied, but he helped the school have kinder kids and a kinder school. You should read this book because it makes you feel ecstatic, devastated, angry, worried and overall enthusiastic, for the Wonder, August Pullman. Watch what you say and do, because you never know somebody’s inner Wonder. If you don’t believe me read “Wonder” and you will understand.

Wonder is one, of the most amazing books I’ve ever read...this is why you should read it. Wonder is about a kid named August who has a deformed face. He goes through tons of challenges, but the biggest one is bullying. A kid named Julian picks on him all the time, he invents a game just to be a jerk. His two friends Jack Will and Summer help him stand strong. But near the end he has a field trip and goes to the woods. There a group of seventh graders pick on him and two of Julian’s friends, Henry and Miles, stand up for him. From there he is treated fairly. I promise Wonder will mix your emotions like a beater. You will feel happy, sad, angry, confused, hopeless, and shocked. So I really hope you will read Wonder.

Wonder is one of the very best books I have ever read! You feel so many emotions at once. The good emotions like happy, excited, and grateful. If you read Wonder you will not regret it. It is about a boy named August who has a lot of genes mixed together so that his face looks messed up. He goes to school for the very first time and meets a lot of new friends. By the end of the year he has lots of friends and is loved by everyone. It’s a great book.

Dear Mr.Husfelt ,
Wonder is the best book I ever read! It makes you feel so many different emotions. Also, Wonder has so many ups and downs. It’s like one day everything's fine then the next day all twisted and messed up. Finally, some of the people in this book are mean. Also, it goes back and forth between people. August is the main character in the story. He plays an important role in the story because his face has diseases that make it look like it was burned in fire. Jack is August’s new best friend. Jack and August have their ups and downs, but everything turns out all right. Julian is the bully who picks on August. The nicest person in the story is Summer who is the first person to sit by August.

Wonder is an amazing, emotional , well written book about a boy who was born with a facial deformity that stopped him from going to a regular school-until now. August Pullman is about to start fifth grade at Beecher Prep, and if you have ever been the new kid you know how hard that can be. But poor August is just an ordinary kid with a not-so-ordinary face. Will August ever convince his friends he is just like them? Read Wonder to find out.

In the book Wonder, we were feeling a lot of feelings. We feltwe should give a summary of the book Wonder. In this book we felt happy because August got some new friends at his school, even with his gene that involves his face. He gets even more friends throughout the school year. Almost everybody in his school is his friend at the end of the school year.
We felt sad because one of his friends betrayed him, some kids teased him, and almost the whole school didn’t like him in the beginning. Also, they had a game called the “plague” where whoever touched August had 5 seconds to wash their hands or they would get “infected”.
